Noahlogy Awarded Contract by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism to Develop an AI System to Streamline Vessel Inspection Operations
Noahlogy Inc. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Yusuke Fukushige; hereinafter “the Company”), a startup spun out of the University of Tokyo that provides AI and digital transformation (DX) services specialized in the maritime sector, is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a contract by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) for a project titled “Study on Advanced Support for Expert Judgment in Ship Inspections Utilizing AI.”
Noahlogy will strive to steadily carry out this project by leveraging the AI technology and on-site domain knowledge it has cultivated through its specialization in the maritime industry.
■ Background
Ship inspections, which underpin maritime safety, require numerous specialized judgments to verify compliance with regulations—ranging from the review of documents such as drawings and calculation sheets to on-site verification of structures and equipment. At the same time, as is the case across the maritime industry as a whole, there is a need for measures to streamline operations while maintaining inspection quality at government-administered ship inspection sites.
In this study, to address this challenge, we will first assess the current state of drawing review and on-site inspection operations in ship inspections. Then, leveraging the technology and expertise we have cultivated through design reviews at shipyards and other contexts, we will identify the scope of operations where AI support is feasible and clarify the expected benefits of its implementation.
With the mission of “Revolutionizing the maritime industry with AI technology for the sake of future generations,” our company is promoting the use of AI in the maritime industry, including shipbuilding, shipping, and the marine equipment industry. We will continue to contribute to improving productivity across the entire maritime industry by collaborating with both public and private sector stakeholders.
